Intimidated by the Gym? 5 Reasons why Evergreen is the Best Place to Start!

By Coach Keller

Happy New Year! January is a great time to reset your health or take your fitness to the next level. But getting started (or starting again) can be daunting. Walking into a gym can be intimidating. It seems like everyone else knows what they are doing and how to use the equipment, and you might feel like you will be judged for not knowing those things. Others may feel comfortable in a gym, and even go to open gyms in town or use their own equipment at home, but this leads people to the same movement patterns and a lack of diversity and intensity in their workouts.

If you're looking for a welcoming environment or a full-body programming to shake-up your regular routine, Evergreen is just the place to start! Here are five reasons why Evergreen Strength is the best place for your fitness journey:

1. Feel Your Best in a Welcoming Environment

At Evergreen, we take pride in fostering a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Unlike some gyms that exude a "bro" vibe or unhealthy level of competition, Evergreen prioritizes friendliness over intimidation. Our coaches and members are passionate about creating a supportive community where everyone feels comfortable regardless of their fitness level. In the same workout, one person will use a 5lb dumbbell and another person will have a 50lb dumbbell, and it doesn’t matter! Both people are doing the workout that is right for their body.

Whether you're a seasoned gym-goer or a newcomer, you'll find a place where ego is left at the door, making Evergreen a judgment-free zone where you can focus on your journey without feeling self-conscious. You will never be pushed to do something that isn’t right for your body, and we always encourage you to listen to what is best for you that day. The other nice aspect is that there are almost always a few newer members in class (especially right now!), so you won’t be the only newbie in the room!

2. Say Goodbye to Planning Your Workouts

A major barrier to starting a fitness routine is the overwhelming prospect of planning your workouts. Many people have memberships to open gyms or they have some equipment at home, but both of these options tend to become monotonous. And in general, even if you are motivated to go workout on your own, people tend to avoid movements they don’t like to do, which usually leaves out certain muscle groups. At Evergreen, this concern is alleviated by our professionally crafted workout programs. Coach Elijah and Coach Amy have been in the fitness industry for a long time, and they are constantly learning and improving their programming.

You don't have to spend hours researching or creating the perfect routine; our team has you covered. We take into account our community’s fitness goals and needs, ensuring that you have a structured and effective workout every time you step into the gym.

3. Full-Body Programming

Along these same lines, Evergreen understands that a holistic approach to fitness yields the best results. Instead of fixating on isolated muscle groups, our full-body programming targets multiple areas simultaneously, promoting balanced and functional strength. If you can make it to class 2-3 times a week, you can expect to target everything by the end of the week! With a balance of strength and skill work, plyometrics, aerobic and anaerobic training, mobility, and more, you will feel quite accomplished at the end of every workout!

4. Options to Modify

Something that can also feel challenging is working around any injuries or mobility limitations you may have. All of our coaches are knowledgeable and willing to help you find modifications for movements. There are always other ways to target a muscle or replicate something in a way that doesn’t hurt your body. And there is always someone asking for modifications, so don’t be afraid to ask! Our goal is to get you strong and healthy, not make it worse.

5. Community of Friends

The sense of camaraderie at Evergreen sets it apart from other gyms. It's not just a place to work out, it's a community of athletes, adventurers, parents, and teachers all supporting one another. The conversations during warmups are about bike rides or hikes over the weekend, and new friendships are made every week! Having workout buddies not only makes exercising more enjoyable but also provides the accountability and motivation needed to stay consistent. Evergreen's emphasis on community fosters connections that extend beyond the gym, creating a network of friends who connect for a run, head up to Baker together, or meet for coffee. Our community is truly special, and it will be there to celebrate your victories and support your challenges.

We look forward to seeing you in class soon! Have questions? Get in touch with us!
